I’m Giorgi Ninos, an independent journalist from a small village in the Republic of Georgia, a place known for its wine production and cultural events. Growing up in Eastern Europe taught me that defending human rights is not optional, but it’s a part of everyday life. I have seen how government decisions, often framed by tradition or religious influences, leave ordinary citizens exposed to corruption and abuse. The struggles I witnessed pushed me to document these stories and share them with a wider audience.

I don’t understand why the government does nothing when underage transgender people are involved in prostitution, yet denies them the basic rights every child deserves. In Eastern Europe, transgender people remain one of the most vulnerable groups. Many underage individuals face exploitation and, in some cases, are pushed into illegal prostitution, becoming victims on a daily basis. Society often criticizes them on social media, for lacking education and being vulgar; however, many fail to recognize that we as a society are the ones denying them proper educational opportunities. This injustice is one of the many reasons I focus on giving visibility to those who suffer from policies that ignore basic human rights.

I focus on reporting the experiences of those affected by policies that undermine basic rights, from freedom of speech and the right to live safely to the simple dignity every person deserves. My interest lies especially in the lives of vulnerable communities, though I also report on broader issues wherever injustice is present. I believe that the honest, unvarnished accounts of people’s lives reveal a truth that statistics alone cannot show.

One story that stands out is “A Ballerina Battling for European Georgia,” published on GlobalVoices.org. In this feature, I detailed how ordinary citizens challenge actions by government authorities that ignore basic democratic principles. I will never forget what happened to Natia Bunturi, a Georgian ballerina, a citizen, a woman punished not for criminal behavior but simply for showing empathy and trying to engage humanely with the police. Her experience is a reminder of the risks people take when they stand for decency in the face of harsh state responses.

Through my writing, I try to connect personal experiences with larger issues of policy and power, inviting my readers to see the real effects of decisions made far from their doorsteps. I invite you to join me as I continue to share with you the human side of political and social challenges, giving voice to those often left unheard.

Whether you have an article in mind, a collaboration proposal, or just want to share your story, I’d love to hear from you.
